The eight bands

Like every council in England, Gosport uses eight council tax valuation bands (A to H), based on what a property was worth on 1 April 1991 — not its current value. Band A covers the lowest-value properties (up to £40,000 in 1991 terms) and Band H the highest (over £320,000).

Gosport's 2026/27 charges by band

According to Gosport Borough Council's published 2026/27 rates:

Band A is £1,562.86. Band B is £1,823.33. Band C is £2,083.81. Band D is £2,344.29. Band E is £2,865.25. Band F is £3,386.19. Band G is £3,907.15. Band H is £4,688.58.

These figures combine Gosport Borough Council's share with Hampshire County Council, the Police and Crime Commissioner, and the Fire and Rescue Authority precepts, as is standard for a two-tier council tax bill. Full details are in the council's Valuation Bands and Council Tax Charges guide.

Finding your band

Your Council Tax bill states which band applies to your home. If you don't have a recent bill to hand, you can check your band on GOV.UK, or by calling the council on 03000 501 501 if you can't check online.

How to pay

The default payment plan spreads your bill over 10 monthly instalments (April to January), but you can ask to pay over 12 months (April to March) instead, which lowers each individual payment. Set up payment, including Direct Debit, through Gosport Borough Council's council tax pages.

Struggling to pay?

If you're on a low income, you may be entitled to Council Tax Reduction, a means-tested benefit administered by Gosport Borough Council based on your income, savings and household. Check your eligibility and apply through the council's website rather than assuming you don't qualify.
