Gosport Schools & How to Apply for a Place

School admissions in Gosport are run by Hampshire County Council, even for academies. Here's how the reception and Year 7 application process works, and where to find every school.

Admissions run through Hampshire County Council

Even though many individual schools in Gosport — including secondaries like Bay House School and Bridgemary School — have academy status, applications for a place still go through Hampshire County Council's coordinated admissions system, not the school directly. Apply via hants.gov.uk/educationandlearning/admissions.

Applying for a reception place (Year R)

If your child was born within the relevant academic year for entry, you apply for their first (reception) school place through Hampshire's Year R admissions process. You can name multiple preferences on your application, and Hampshire's site sets out the exact deadline for each admissions round — check it directly rather than assuming a date, as application windows are set annually.

Applying for a secondary place (Year 7)

If your child is currently in Year 6, you apply for their Year 7 secondary place through Hampshire's Year 7 admissions process. You can name up to three schools on your application, ranked in order of preference.

Finding schools in Gosport

The full, current list of primary, secondary and special schools in Gosport — with contact details, Ofsted ratings and catchment information — is on Hampshire's Find a school tool. Gosport's secondary schools include Bay House School (with sixth form) and Bridgemary School (an 11–16 academy) among others — search the tool for the complete, current list rather than relying on any single source, as school status and catchments can change.

Getting the process right

Hampshire publishes a general guide to how to make an application for a school place, covering the full timeline from application to offer day, and what happens if you don't get any of your named preferences.
